Source notes and limits

  • Scan check: the sheet's typeface draws 3 and 5 alike and no other table confirms dash 795 (793 would also fit the table's order). Confirm on the sheet before ordering.
  • Table I (3/8 - .375): A .329-.335", B .263-.335", C min .75", D min .16".
  • "MS24665-39 INDICATES - PIN, COTTER (SPLIT), BRASS WITH BLACK CHEMICAL FINISH NOMINAL DIAMETER 1/32 INCH, LENGTH 1/2 INCH." (Req. 5 example).
  • "THE PART NUMBER SHALL CONSIST OF THE BASIC MS SHEET NUMBER PLUS THE DASH NUMBER TAKEN FROM TABLES II, III, IV, V AND VI AS APPLICABLE." (MS24665F p.2, Req. 5).
  • MS24665F, dated 29 FEBRUAR 1996, is hereby canceled and superseded by NASM24665. The Part Identification Numbers (PIN) for MS24665F and the part numbers for NASM24665 are identical. The part numbers have not been changed. (Notice 2, 30 November 1998).
  • FAA AC 43.13-1B para 7-103 (p.7-17): "COTTER PINS (AN380). Cotter pins are used for securing bolts, screws, nuts, and pins. Use AN381 or MS24665 cotter pins in locations where nonmagnetic material or resistance to corrosion is desired. Cotter pins should not be reused."
  • FAA AC 43.13-1B para 7-127a (p.7-26): "The diameter of the cotter pins selected for any application should be the largest size that will fit consistent with the diameter of the cotter pin hole and/or the slots in the nut. Cotter pins should not be reused on aircraft."
  • FAA AC 43.13-1B para 7-127 (NOTE) (p.7-26): "NOTE: In using the method of cotter pin safetying, as shown in figures 7-6 and 7-7, ensure the prong, bent over the bolt, is seated firmly against the bolt shank, and does not exceed bolt diameter. Also, when the prong is bent over the nut, ensure the bent prong is down and firmly flat against the nut and does not contact the surface of the washer."
